Roswell Sisters - It's the Girl

If David Lynch were to make a film in a small town on Venus, the Roswell Sisters would be the nightclub act. Unearthing the forgotten tunes of 1930's vocal jazz legends the Boswell Sisters as if they were some ancient tome hidden deep in the Nile River Valley, the Roswell Sisters presents an androgynous mix of three-part "female" harmonies set to an alien soundscape painted by members of Portland's Trash Can Joe. From the November 19, 2005 show.

The Red Rose Girls - Miner's Blues

Pulling material from the Carter Family, Hazel and Alice and Doc Watson, The Red Rose Girls make these great works their own. Powerful singing is the hallmark of the band so it is easy to overlook the secret ingredient that makes these girls even more unique.

With only two guitars and limited hand percussion, they manage to lay down strong rhythms underneath the old songs that range from fierce and primal to trance-like. From the October 15, 2005 show.
